Woman Charged With Having Sex With Boy Wants Trial

A Harnett County woman entered a plea Wednesday of not guilty on charges of statutory rape involving a 15-year-old boy.

Crystal Anne Rodriguez, 29, of the 60 block of Westside Drive, Cameron, faces two counts of statutory rape for incidents that allegedly occurred between June 1 and July 31, 2009.

The allegations came to light last Octo ber after the 15-year-old’s family learned Mrs. Rodriguez and her husband, Jose Luis Rodriguez, 27, allegedly had sex with the boy while he was living at their home on Lone Star Court.

“She maintains her innocence,” said defense attorney Jason Wunsch of Lillington, who has been retained by Mrs. Rodriguez. “She looks forward to having her day in court when she can have her trial.”

Mrs. Rodriguez appeared before Supe rior Court Judge Frank Lanier in Lilling ton. He set her trial sate for Sept. 20. As sistant District Attorney Teresa Postell will prosecute the case.

This is the second set of charges against Mrs. Rodriguez, who in 2007 was charged with having sex with a 14-year old boy and fondling his 13-year-old brother.

Though originally indicted on felony charges, Mrs. Rodriguez pleaded guilty in January 2008 to two counts of misdemeanor sexual battery charges in that case. Mr.

Wunsch also defendend Mrs. Rodriguez on those charges. He said this time there will be a trial, not a plea deal.
