Q: I got a traffic ticket going 69 mph in a 55 mph zone and I was writing to ask whether I should just pay the ticket? This is my first traffic ticket and I’m not sure what is best to do.
A: Paying for traffic tickets is not advisable prior to seeking a reduction in the speed on the traffic ticket. Speeding tickets can very often lead to points on both your driver license and insurance. These points could cause higher insurance premiums and a possible suspension of the drivers license. You or an attorney on your behalf can seek to have the speed of the ticket reduced.
A 69/55 mph zone in Harnett County where I practice can often be reduced to improper equipment which puts no points on you license or insurance.I would advise you to consult with an attorney prior to doing anything with your case.
